Health and Safety

At a birthday party we do not hitch a pony to a carousel, our handler
always walks next to the pony.
This provides added security for the child
and also means that we are interacting with the child during their ride, this
provides an educational advantage as the children are in direct contact with the
handler and are free to ask any questions regarding the pony's care and
training. Even though we are there interacting with the child, the very young
should always have a parent walk with them.

Care is taken at all times to ensure the safety of both the children and the
animals.
Pony-Up handlers are careful to instruct children on how to
behave near  and on the ponies and petting zoo animals.  Here is a
general guideline to help you instruct your guests.
You will find these
rules in a downloadable format to share with your guests if you would like
Here

Pony Safety Rules:

  •  Approach a pony near its shoulder so it can see you.

  •  Never approach a pony from directly behind.  That is a blind spot;.

  •  Never stand directly behind a pony.

  •  Don’t run or yell, You could spook the pony.

  •  Never put your hand in or near the pony’s mouth

Petting Zoo Safety Rules:

  •   Never chase or grab at the animals

  •   Never put your hands in or around the animals mouths

  •   Do not pick up the animals

  •   Do not try to feed them with out permission and adult help

Healthy routines are important - even at parties!

We recommend that you make soap and water available to all at the
party after they have finished with the pony rides and petting zoo.

Hand washing is the number one way to prevent illness and should be practiced
after being in contact with the ponies and farm animals!  This is the
recommendation of  state and federal health departments and soap and water
are recommended over baby wipes and sanitizing hand gels, though some
health departments do recommend gel sanitizers where hand washing is not
available.  We also recommend that toys and pacifiers be removed from
children before they go near the ponies, this ensures that these items stay
clean.

We do many parties every year.  In all our years of business we have never
had a single instance of illness associated with our ponies or farm animals by
clients, staff, or our own children!  We are confident that your health is not at
risk by enjoying the company of our ponies!

Every effort is made to ensure the ponies and petting zoo animals living
conditions are as clean as possible and that the ponies and petting zoo animals
that attend parties are as clean as possible.  We voluntarily comply with USDA
rules governing the care of our ponies and petting zoo animals.  We are
inspected and licenced by the USDA.  All our animals have the highest standard
of living conditions and care.  Despite this,
we cannot stress enough the
importance of hand washing following contact with any animal,
anywhere.
